Feeling behind and it’s only January?

Feeling behind and it’s only January? You’re not alone and you don’t need to panic. If you’re already wondering how to reset your business without the burnout, this is for you.

Social media is loud right now. Everyone’s suddenly got a brand-new routine, a colour-coded planner, a 5am wake-up call, and a whole new personality. And somehow, it feels even louder this year.

It’s no wonder you’re questioning whether you’re already behind.

Why I stopped doing New Year’s resolutions (and what I do instead)

I’ll be honest… I’ve never been a New Year’s resolutions kind of person. I’ve tried them, failed at them, and ended up feeling like I’d set myself up for disappointment before the year had even got going.

So a few years ago, I thought: fuck that.

Instead of rigid resolutions, I set intentions. Sometimes at the start of the year, sometimes mid-year, sometimes when life or business clearly needs a reset.

Intentions feel lighter. More realistic. And far less likely to make you feel like a failure when life inevitably throws a spanner in the works.

The overwhelm we see every single day.

So many of our clients come to us feeling like everything is piling up at once.

They’re overwhelmed.
They can’t keep up.
They don’t know where to start to make things easier.

And the worst part? They feel like they should be able to handle it all by now.

If that’s you, please hear this: struggling doesn’t mean you’re bad at business. It usually just means you’re doing too much, for too long, on your own.

Getting yourself in the right mindset

I’d heard the word mindset thrown around when I started my business five years ago, but I didn’t truly understand how important it was until the last 18 months.

Learning how to:

  • reframe negative thoughts
  • slow my nervous system down
  • trust myself more
  • stop spiralling every time things felt messy

has genuinely changed how I show up in my business.

Quick disclaimer: I’m not a mindset coach. I’m just sharing what’s worked for me, based on real experience, not theory.

Here are a few simple mindset resets you can try right now:

  • Name the thought, don’t become it. “I’m behind” is a thought, not a fact. Catch it and challenge it.
  • Zoom out. One messy week doesn’t define your whole year. Or your ability.
  • Breathe properly (seriously). Slow, deep breaths signal safety to your nervous system and stop the panic spiral.
  • Focus on progress, not perfection. Small steps still move you forward, even if Instagram says otherwise.

Putting practical actions into place

Mindset matters, but so does action.

When things feel overwhelming in your business, simplicity is your best friend. Here are a few practical ways to regain control:

  • Start with the end goal and work backwards. Decide what you want this quarter to look like, then break it down into small, doable steps.
  • Choose one priority at a time. Trying to fix everything at once usually leads to fixing nothing.
  • Write everything down. Get the chaos out of your head and onto paper. Clarity comes from seeing it all laid out.
  • Ask yourself: “Does this actually need to be done by me?” This question alone can change everything.
